The Club danced at Peepers until it closed.  I don’t remember how long that was, but it was less than one year.  We were in luck when O’Malley’s started having Friday Nite Shag nights within months of Peepers closing.

Over the years we were able to call O’Malley’s our Friday night home and drew crowds from Statesville, Albemarle, Concord, Kannapolis, and Lexington.  Ron Arey was the regular DJ and played there for us.

We took our first “November Beach Trip” in November of 1988.  The “November Beach Trip” continued for 10 years and eventually was called the “Shrimperoo”.  The last “Shrimperoo” was held November of 1998.

The party that is now called “Boogie to Boone” and is sponsored by the Boone Shag Club began as a bus trip to Boone in June 1989.  The Salisbury Shag Club contacted the Statesville Shag Club and the Boone Shag Club about a joint gathering.  It was held at the Holiday Inn in Boone.  There was a pool party in the afternoon and an evening dance at the Holiday Inn. Later the trips moved to the Apple Barn In Valley Crusas.  As far as I know, the trip to Boone was later changed to the “Boogie To Boone” and still continues today.

Over the years the club has been a major sponsor of the March of Dimes, Relay For Life, and Hospice.  There was a series of “challenges’ between the Salisbury Shag Club and the Statesville Shag Club. They were featured in the WRDX magazines.  I do not recall the total amount of funds raised for the March of Dimes, but I do remember in 1989 we ranked 3rd in Rowan County behind corporations such as Food Lion and others.
